Skip woke me up at 5:30 AM and we had a quick breakfast, then hit the road. He gave me an escort out and we rode for about 20 miles again. We switched bikes and he let me ride his Nomad, which was a fun change of pace. Today, I broke my personal best for longest ride, as I have now covered over 5400 miles in 10 days. I hit my first toll road today and then I knew that I really was on the east coast.
Got to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge / Tunnel complex about 10:00 AM. The bridge spans 17 miles shoreline to shoreline and even longer if you include the attaching roads & toll plazas. It is so long that they have the traffic drop down into a pair of tunnels that are approximately a mile long, so that shipping traffic can still use the bay.
Then further up the highway about an hour away is the Lewes / Cape May Ferry which carries travelers between Delaware and New Jersey. Today I had a great ride, but not a long mileage day.
That gave me time to call and talk to Jarrod, about our meeting tomorrow and then I continued on to Raritan, NJ. This is where I found out that the GPS is good, but not perfect. In Raritan, NJ., it dropped me off 3 miles from the motel and it took me a while to find the true location of it. I finally had to stop at a pizza delivery place for directions. Those guys always know how to get there and in 30 minutes or less.
